Help my boobs
Training March 4 I literally grabbed my breasts this morning when I started out on the treadmill they hurt so much. Clearly a sign that I need a new sports bra. Anyone got any recommendations? I've opened up the comments on this one ... Last night I took Scott to Kuma's for his birthday and managed to not only order one of their burgers all veggie-style, but also avoided eating their awesome pretzel bun, which is hard because it's amazing. On Sunday I had a turkey sub from Subway and there was no way my body was going to be happy digesting two days worth of white sugars like that. No way, no how. Sometimes being healthy is not as tasty as Dr. Oz would have you believe. Today's run was good - I'm pushing myself pretty hard these days. I'm really trying to get better where my time is concerned. I have to admit that last year I never pushed myself as hard as I needed to in order to improve my time. I'm giving it a more concerted effort this year. I'd really like to be in the 10:30-, 11-minute mile mark by year's end! *Thanks to everyone for their great suggestions! Posted by Erin at 01:12 PM | filed under: Random commentsHi Erin. I just got an Enell sports bra a few weeks ago. I'm a 34D. It's ugly as all get out and you feel like you're putting on a straight jacket, but my boobs barely move when I run now. I measured my chest with my regular bra on and with the Enell (I was just so amazed at how FLAT everything was with this thing), and the Girls are a full 2 and 1/2 inches flatter with the Enell.
I only bought one and just rinse it out in lingerie wash after a run and it's dry the next time I need it. On running--just the other day a running blogger talked about how to run faster: "If you want to run faster, run faster." Kindof makes sense, but it's darn hard to run faster. Totally worth it, but hard. Best of luck with your running efforts. Spring will be here before you know it and you'll be back out there loving your outdoor runs again. posted by: Laura N at March 4, 2008 03:28 PM I finally had to crack and upgrade my seriously old running bra so I splurged on the CW-X® CONDITIONING WEAR® - XTRA SUPPORT BRA™ which costs a whopping $55. I didn't want to pay but I'd heard great things about it. I have to say it's well worth it. I wore it during both days of the Goofy Challenge at Disney (that's a half marathon on Saturday and a Full one on Sunday) and I had not a hint of sore-boobs or chafe marks or anything. It is a little like putting on a straight jacket, but I don't want them to move AT ALL and in this thing, they do not move. I'm a 36C so if you're smaller you might not need such sturdy armour but they have lots of other products which I would guess are just as awesome. Good Luck with the running! posted by: helen at March 4, 2008 03:49 PM Title 9 has some fantastic exercise bras! http://www.titlenine.com/jump.jsp?itemID=676&itemType=CATEGORY&iMainCat=674&iSubCat=676&view=all posted by: susan at March 4, 2008 04:18 PM My newest one and current favorite is a C9 from Target (I think? No, I'm almost sure it's from there. I like their exercise pants, too.). It's sturdy and has separate cups, thus avoiding the dreaded uniboob profile, and has convertible straps too. I think it was about $20.00. posted by: Peggasus at March 4, 2008 04:23 PM I run marathons and really like the Reebok sports bras. If you have a local running store, they should be able to help you find a suitable product- though, I'd generally buy it online once you find one you like (cheaper)....that stuff gets esspensive. posted by: e. at March 4, 2008 04:50 PM I really love the C9 line from Target. There's one racerback that's in the stores, but not on the website. It has a seam running basically over each of your nipples. That maybe doesn't sound so comfortable, but it's the best thing I've tried. It's a little uni-boob creating, but the cups are slightly separated by another seam so it isn't as bad as a lot of bras that style. It comes in black and white at Target. There's also a more expensive Champion version of the bra that is actually better. Sometimes they have them on sale at Macy's. The Target version looks just like this one, but the elastic isn't as durable. Here's the Champion page: http://www.championcatalog.com/product/CH1050.html?cgnbr=3021000000 By the way, I'm a C cup and I run and do plyometrics in it in total non-bouncy comfort. posted by: Alison at March 4, 2008 05:20 PM I really like the Champion line but I definitely recommend the "high intensity" line (I think that is what it is called-it's recommended for running and high impact sports.) I buy mine at Sports Mart and they run about $40. I'm only a 34b but I do not like to feel any movement in my chest area when I run! This bra really flattens everything without being uncomfortable. posted by: Mary at March 4, 2008 10:29 PM http://www.onehanesplace.com/ Good luck with increasing your time. It will increase just by not having to worry about holding your boobs. I've been reading your blog for a very long time and there are so many posts I would have liked to comment on so while you have them open I just want you to know you are such an inspiration. I look forward to every new post. Thanks for keeping it real. posted by: MB at March 4, 2008 11:13 PM I am a big fan of Moving Comfort sports bras. I have been getting them at Fleet Feet, either in Old Town or in Lincoln Square. Incredibly sturdy and long-lasting, and I run in them with no problems, no pain. They also carry some Champion bras which are great as well. Good luck! posted by: Erin at March 5, 2008 07:50 AM The Enell is very effective. Yeah, it's ugly and feels like a corset, but it works. posted by: Alyssa at March 5, 2008 11:47 AM Enell, enell, enell. Best running bra ever. Boobs don't move at all - even when doing jumping jacks. I was a two bra wearer for years and the Enell changed my life and that is no exaggeration. My running life improved and I was able to run half-marathons after the Enell. Seriously. Enell. posted by: Brenda at March 5, 2008 01:54 PM Just wanted to echo the wearing 2 bras method. I'm a 36DD and that's the only thing that has worked for me. Some type of breathable underwire to separate and lift and then a snug non-underwire over top. I wouldn't really expect to get a great deal on either of these, but really, these are your boobs, they're worth it! posted by: Erin at March 5, 2008 03:23 PM Try Movin Comfort sports bras. They have them designed by size and high/medium/low impact. I love mine. posted by: sara at March 5, 2008 04:30 PM I really like the Shape line of sports bras from Champion. I'm only a B, but the bras have separate cups built in and keep comfortably in place without creating a monoboob. I've found them at the SportMart or whatever it is at Clark and Barry(ish). http://www.championcatalog.com/product/CH1050.html?cgnbr=3011000000 posted by: Kate at March 5, 2008 05:07 PM I'm with the Moving Comfort folks. As someone who is large chested AND a runner, I can't say enough about them. My favorite is the Fiona which I think starts at a C. Plenty of support but without the constriction of the Enell. That sucker makes it impossible to breathe! posted by: Katie at March 5, 2008 05:34 PM Check out the Melbourne bra from Title 9. I'm almost sure they make them in all sizes, including smaller ones. I LOVE my Melbourne bras. posted by: Andrea McKibben at March 5, 2008 06:42 PM Hi Erin, My favorite is Champion's Double Dry Innerframe Sports Bra I don't know how you feel about an underwire. This one has one. It holds the girls really nice without smooshing them down or squeezing them together into a unaboob thing. Here is a link: http://www.freshpair.com/Champion-Double-Dry-Innerframe-Sports-Bra-1216.html?CID=OTC-2997&srccode=cii_9686437&cpncode=12-42573292-2 Hope that helps! Dena posted by: Dena at March 5, 2008 07:41 PM I am also a huge fan of the Moving Comfort bras, and they come in all sizes. When I was larger I loved the Enell too, but as you say they're not for all sizes. Moving Comfort has great motion control and they don't seem to stretch or lose elasticity like some do. I've had mine for over a year and they're still great! posted by: Lisa at March 5, 2008 11:25 PM |

A nurse practioner recommended to me to wear two sports bras, one with underwire, and the top one is the tank top style. Really squishes you up but when you have bigger boobs it really seems to work. Otherwise the bouncing pulls all the tissues in your chest. I went to the NP with the breast pain problem thinking it was something way worse than it was.
