The Knee

I haven't worked out in a week. Well, I'm going to say a week and a half since that run I took last Monday was all of 20 minutes.

Anyway, citing the advice of my good friend, Hanna, I'm going to give swimming a shot. I'm antsy and I hate not working out right now. Why is it that this sort of thing happens to me when I have 1/2 marathons lurking?

My knee has been feeling much better - no pain whatsoever in two days. Just the same, we're going to take it easy around these parts. I feel so bad for my dog, though. Poor dear loves nothing more than a run around the neighborhood and right now she's just pouting and moping around the house.

I'll give a shot at something low-impact in another week.

An entry for later in the week? Why I hate Weight Watchers and why I'm going to quit it. For good.

I understand how you are feeling about WW, Erin. I started the program again for about the millionth time back in August and was doing really well up until about a month ago. The program is fine and I actually like my meeting and my leader, but I hit a wall in a huge way at the beginning of November and stopped caring about anything to do with the program.

I know how I need to move my body and how to eat in order to lose weight. Spending $40 a month on a Monthly Pass when I don't have the interest in the program any more seems pointless to me. I am going to put that money into a vacation fund for 2007 and concentrate on maintaining all of the good habits that I have gained over the last couple of months.

Good luck to you -- I hope your knee is much better.

Erin, I too am interested in reading your anti-WW article. I gave up on WW this summer. I just cannot count points for the rest of the week. And I KNOW it's about portion control, but being on a "diet" (it doesn't FEEL like a lifestyle eating all that crap they sell -which I KNOW you don't have to eat), makes me feel so restricted and deprived. Then, I start to binge. What a joke!

I am learning how to eat like skinny person. I know this sounds dumb, but I am reading a book about how to eat according to your hunger level, and what your body says. I have been on diets so long, I don't even know what that feels like. Usually I am eating because it's time, it's a celebration, fear/anger/sadness/stress, or boredom!

I encourage you to check it out. it's written by 2 registered dieticians, who have experience counseling people with eating issues.

Hi Erim

I too, am extremely intrigued about your decision to leave WW. I have to say that I found the whole thing unbearable, mostly because I could just not stand sitting through the horrible meetings. But you seemed to find a fair amount of success with the programme so I'm really curious as to why you've finally had enough. Please post soon! I love your writing.
