The Biggest Loser
I TiVo'd last night's episode of The Biggest Loser since I was at the race. [The race was AWESOME. I think it was my best yet. Seriously. I'm hesitant to say that because I'll get the results and learned I sucked ass, but I had such a blast.] I'm off to bed because I have a weight-lifting class at 6:15 a.m. tomorrow, but I just finished watching it. I know some people will hate me for saying this but ... God I love that show. Posted by Erin at 12:08 AM | filed under: Random commentsI love love love the show as well. I started watching halfway through last season while at the gym (talk about motivation). I agree there weight loss is fast, but if all you did 24/7 was workout and fret over what yuo are eating what do you expect? Sorry I have not had coffee yet, don't know if this is coherent. posted by: LaShawn at September 15, 2005 08:51 AM Something to keep in mind: the people who lost that huge amount of weight also were quite large, i.e. more than 240 pounds or so and mostly male. If you're on the larger side, you gravitate towards losing more weight within the first week on ANY diet program. And, men lose weight easier than women. It's why some people, for example, who just start WW lose around four pounds or more by just following the program. Their drastic weight loss will peter out as their bodies get adjusted to the change. It's really not that uncommon. posted by: Erin at September 15, 2005 10:19 AM The other comment I have about their rapid weight loss is my husband and I noted they were weighed immediately following a major last supper PIG OUT. We're chalking at least 5-8 pounds up to sodium bloat. The show inspires me too - I ran today and thought of how much harder it would be to lug an extra 100 lbs around , also how much chutz pah it would take to publicly weigh yourself. posted by: elizabeth at September 15, 2005 10:35 AM Works for me, then - I'm 278 as of today - way close to the 300# that I'd said I'd never hit again. I have a tooth to get taken care of, and then there will be nothing to stop me, muhahaha :) posted by: James at September 15, 2005 10:59 AM One of my favorite comments from the show was when one of the guys said he was "going at his own pace," and the trainer said, "No you're not; look where going at your own pace got you. Now, move!" Just something to remember when I'd rather stroll and briskly walk or jog. posted by: debra at September 15, 2005 12:45 PM I like the show also. I didn't watch last season, but I am looking forward to tuning in every week this season. Congrats on your race Erin!!! posted by: Lori at September 15, 2005 05:40 PM I watched TBL last year and it was VERY inspiring and encouraging. I don't know what changes they have made for this year, I guess I missed it on TV tonight (CRAP!) because I was watching CSI. Nothing comes before that show :) Last year it was on Tuesday nights... with regards to fast weight loss... well, two things on that. First is, they couldn't afford to shoot their show over an entire year, just to get someone to lose 100 lbs I suppose. Just not practical I guess and I think the first time they did it, even the show producers were surprised (and the trainers!) at how fast people lost weight. Some worked harder than others (Drea lost about 50 lbs but she gained TONNES of muscle and looks fantastic!) Secondly, they are all under strict medical guidance. If someone isn't healthy, they will make sure that they get the care they need. Finally, my favourite moment from last season, was when Gary's wife came to visit at the house (remember, they are sometimes away from their family for several months!)... "And the asthma?" she asks? "Gone," he replies barely audible. Amazing! posted by: anji at September 16, 2005 12:43 AM Wow! Congratulations! I just found your blog and your photos are very inspiring. Thanks for sharing with the world. I would love to have your success story on my site if that interests you. posted by: Bill at September 17, 2005 11:06 AM Erin! I love that show and am on the edge of my seat for it to start being aired here in Australia. I cannot wait for it, I'm getting so excited. Congrats on the run as well. What an inspiring woman you are! posted by: rebeka at September 17, 2005 09:36 PM Gosh darn it I missed the premiere! Someone email me and tell me what happened. posted by: Debi at September 18, 2005 10:00 PM love the show! It is what inspired me to lose weight too. I actually went to the audition but kept on driving by when I saw the line of people. I haven't looked back since. I don't, however, think that taking off the weight as fast as they do is healthy. Even with medical help close by. I'm happier to do it at a slower pace. My favorite part is the body transformations. I loved tales from the scale by the way! posted by: hopefulloser at September 19, 2005 05:23 PM |

Isn't it cool? I didn't see *any* of the previous season, but just by chance happened upon the premeire of this seasons and had my wife dvr it as well. Watched it yesterday. It was very inspirational to me - I hope the rest of the season is equally motivating!
The only problem that I have with it so far is... is it healthy to lose up to 28 pounds in 10 days? I always thought that you MUST keep it down to 2-ish if you want it to be permanent. Still, the show is awesome.
