Run Hit Wonder

Tonight is the Nike Run Hit Wonder 5K.

It's the first 5K I've actually trained for since the St. Patrick's Day race back in 2003. It's amazing what a few months of sloth can do to a person who has been actively running and competiting for two years, isn't it?

Strangely, I've a little nervous. I'm not sure why. Part of me believes that since I actually put forth effort to train, any performance less than stellar will frustrate the shit out of me. Plus, I've actually been proud of the work I've accomplished these past few weeks. I'm back full-swing into the gym -- I've even been experimenting with new classes -- and am spending every Monday night in my kitchen cooking for the week ahead.

If I finish near the back of the heap again I may weep.

Good luck. Not that you need it; I'm sure you won't be near the back. Enjoy the race and tell us all about it!

You'll do awesome, Erin!! I'm so excited for you and can't wait to hear the recap. Just don't focus on placement too much. I did that with my first tri of the season and it was disasterous. Even a BOP finish is one to be proud of -- especially when the competition is fierce. And if I've learned one thing in my training it is that the more races I enter, the more competitive the athletes are and just hanging with them makes me proud.

Have a great evening!

Just think of how the journey has improved your quality of life. The process can be even more important than the results, no?

Anyway, from what I understand about RHW, as long as you keep running and don't stop for the entertainment, you'll do well. Have fun!

What they said - focus on the run and not where you place, and you'll be fine! My husband and I are running it together, and he's got knee issues, and I'm a 9-10 minute miler, so we're not going to try and be super fast either! The good thing about this one is they are supposed to have people showing you where you should start based on your pace. So the people around you will kind of be running the same speed. No pressure, just have a good time!
