What I Wouldn't Give For 145 ...
Oh people. The stomach has only gotten worse. I would go so far as to say that it's taken on a life of its own. It's so bloated, so distended, that it's gunning for its own zip code. The problem is so bad that yesterday I went to Old Navy to buy Fat Pants and if you think I wasn't dying inside you'd be wrong. I keep telling myself that this is all temporary, that I'll go in for the CAT scan this week, hopefully tomorrow, and we'll get to the bottom of my problems, but for now I'm so uncomfortable, and in so much pain, that it's all I can do to ... to whatever. I didn't go to Weight Watchers -- Casey, I'll email you tomorrow! -- because the night before I had such a horrible attack that we had to leave dinner so I could just lay down and relax. It's not pretty. So I'm sort of sad, and not feeling well, but I'll be in the gym tomorrow because I have to do something to try and combat this horrible, horrible feeling. Because no dairy, no caffeine, no sugar, no alcohol and no spicy foods aren't cutting it alone. I've no plans to do anything more than a spin on the elliptical machine, by the way. I'll keep you all up-to-date ... Posted by Erin at 09:56 PM | filed under: Ouch commentsOh hell, that is not what I wanted to hear!! I agree with Cyndi, get to the hospital for an emergency catscan if you can't get one the regular way tomorrow. I'm sure whatever is going on will be helped with diet... you probably have some inflammation right now, maybe some bromelain or digestive enzymes would help...? posted by: Donna at July 24, 2005 10:29 PM Ayi!! Don't worry about Weight Watchers - it'll be there once your stomach rights itself. Take good care hon! posted by: Casey at July 24, 2005 10:33 PM Aw, I'm sorry to hear this. Have they inundated you with comments that "it's probably IBS" yet? It might be, but it is very frustrating to be in so much pain and discomfort to have so many people jump to that conclusion. The good thing is, exercise can help with these problems you're having. The bad news is who wants to work out when there's a war going on in your lower GI system?! Mad props to you if you can do it. Hope everything works out well tomorrow. Lots of water! posted by: Jurgen Nation at July 24, 2005 11:23 PM {{{Erin}}} I am not a dr, so I won't give you medical advice. I will say that it sucks that you are hurting! The fact that you are able to even consider working out shows your dedication to your health. Here's hoping that you are able to give away the loose-so-they-don't-add-extra-pain pants ery soon. (They are *not* fat pants - fat pants are earned by eating super-sized fries.) Take really good care of yourself! posted by: Gina at July 25, 2005 01:19 AM I agree with Gina. And I'm very sorry to hear you've been ill, and I sympathize. I have had similar (but not as extreme) problems from time to time and was never able to pinpoint the cause: eventually I put it down to stress. Whatever's causing it I hope it goes away soon... posted by: Kirsten at July 25, 2005 04:25 AM Agree with Gina and Kirsten...NOT fat pants when caused by bloating due to mystery illness. Please keep on the docs to see you, evaluate you and figure this thing out. And, sympathy from an exiled Chicagoan in Naples. Good luck. posted by: debra at July 25, 2005 06:42 AM Word. Ain't nothing wrong with wanting some comfy pants in times of distress and distended bellies. ~~~good tummy vibes~~~ posted by: Kate at July 25, 2005 09:56 AM Hi Erin, posted by: julie at July 25, 2005 10:06 AM Not trying to scare you - but have them test you for ovarian cancer. posted by: donna at July 25, 2005 11:15 AM Hey all -- OK. Donna, I love you, but "Not trying to scare you but ..." is going to do nothing but scare a gal. Just the same, I appreciate you mentioning it because it's something to be aware of. I've talked about it with my doctor so it's something they are looking for when they do the CAT scan tomorrow. There is a history of ovarian cancer in my family so I've always been hyper-aware of possible warning signs. Could I be pregnant? Well, it's a possibility of course. My doctor is doing tests as we speak and I should know today what those results are. You're all so sweet. Seriously. posted by: Erin at July 25, 2005 11:23 AM Hang in there, Erin. posted by: Nicole-AFW at July 25, 2005 12:34 PM Hang in there Erin. My hubby was finally diagnosed with Crohns last November after two very very painful attacks that landed him in the hospital. Luckily there is a LOT of research going on for IBS and Crohns lately so they're both becomming much more manageable. (I hope you're just pregnant tho) (((HUGS))) posted by: brenna at July 25, 2005 12:56 PM I'm really sorry to read things are getting worse for you. :( I am thinking good thoughts that you'll be able to figure out what is going on much sooner than later!! posted by: Anne at July 25, 2005 05:55 PM OMG that sounds so awful posted by: a girl running at July 25, 2005 08:50 PM Hi Erin, Kerry posted by: Kittygogo at July 26, 2005 02:46 PM Just thought I'd add to the encyclopedia of potential diagnoses by mentioning my college roommate's discovery that she has Celiac disease. I'd never heard of it, but I guess it's not uncommon - it's an autoimmune reaction that your body develops toward gluten (bagels, beer, all my other favorite foods). WebMD says: "What are the symptoms? How is celiac disease diagnosed? Stool tests, X-rays of the abdomen, and a bone density test may also be done when celiac disease is suspected or after it is diagnosed. These tests can help identify whether common problems associated with celiac disease, such as osteoporosis, have developed. Most often, celiac disease is not recognized right away. Another condition, such as food intolerance or irritable bowel syndrome, may be first suspected. Many times, celiac disease is only considered after symptoms fail to improve with treatment for what is initially incorrectly diagnosed as another condition." I just thought I'd pass that on, since your doctor may not be thinking about autoimmune issues. Really hope you feel better, Erin. posted by: Margaret Mary at July 27, 2005 12:58 PM |

Oh my God, I'm so sorry that it's gotten worse! Have you thought of going to the hospital?? At least there they can care for you and get you the help you need. I know that the catscan is next week but it's pointless for you to wait..I mean the pain may get worse. Just a thought. Hang in there.
