The Side Of Caution
I'm going to see my doctor at 9 a.m. tomorrow. No matter what, I shouldn't be having this many problems for this long and if I'm honest? I'm a little concerned and I'd rather just go get it checked. Besides, I'm all sorts of sick and tired of the bloating and pain of it all and the sooner it can be addressed, the better. Thanks, you guys, for all of your feedback! Posted by Erin at 10:29 AM | filed under: Ouch commentsYeah, that sounds like lactose intolerance. I have the same thing with a little bit of Irritable Bowel Syndrome thrown in for kicks. I'm ONLY 30 and I eat like an old person (no dairy, no spicy . . . ). But, sometimes I give in. Here's how it goes for me, "Damn, that pizza looks good . . . " I have a bite and it is indeed awesome. In a few hours though (or sometimes the next morning) I have wretched gas, bloating and constipation. Then, cramps and gas and finally diarrhea. It sounds like you're doing the right thing in monitoring what you are eating and feeling. When I was curled up on the bed in pain I'd think back, "Okay . . . what did I eat?" Almost always, cheese was involved. Now I just go with Lactaid milk, soy cheese, feta and goat cheese. I tried the Lactaid pills, but they did nothing for me. Also, no ranch dressing or blue cheese. Giving up dairy sucks as I love cheese, especially the really stinky cheeses. In restaurants, or banquets (which I attend frequently with work) I just request vegan meals. Good luck to you. And, keep up with the metamucil because it really does help. I find it goes down easier when you throw it into a smoothie, it's a great thickening agent and not so nasty. posted by: melissa at July 21, 2005 11:13 AM Good luck, Erin! I hope you find something minor, easily cured and quickly over. posted by: Debra at July 21, 2005 01:16 PM I hope you feel better soon, and even better, find out what is wrong. posted by: rebeka at July 21, 2005 06:18 PM Erin, I've read your blog on and off (depending on whether I had internet at home) for quite a while now. Just finished reading your book, and it inspired me to get out there. For the first time in a long time I'm taking small steps to start dating. Thanks for the inspiration. :) posted by: Erin at July 21, 2005 08:10 PM good luck, I hope the problem can be easily cured and diagnosed posted by: a girl running at July 21, 2005 09:22 PM |

Eesh, just what you need, to be sick during a move. I'm packing now, and it's MAKING me sick, I swear. My stomach condition and stress level are totally connected, so where it may be just that for you, it's a good idea to get it checked out (like my mom says... ; ))
I went on vacation last week and went to the Gym five times while away because I didn't want to get back and be all depressed because I hadn't worked out, and therefore fall into a vat of onion dip. I gained three pounds! And I didn't even drink THAT many margaritas!
And all this is to say, NO FAIR. And I hope you feel better soon! (And yes, I am new here...just read the book, and have been enjoying your site.)
