This weekend will play host to one of my most favorite new traditions that my friends and I have established: The Coming Out party. I'm pretty sure I'm the one who came up with that name, because I need to designate a name onto everything, including nights where we all make an effort to get dressed up, hit the town, and celebrate our latest friend to become a mother. The last time we did this was when Erin had Colin, which was two years ago, and it makes my head spin a little because how has that much time passed us by? It's a fun night - I think about 10 girls made it out last time for The Three D's - dinner, drinking and dancing. Now it's Kate's turn. Kate and her husband had Thomas back in October, so while we're a little late in the celebrating, it'll be no less momentous. My friend Kate is one of the sweetest, kindest people I know, so it made me feel a little guilty to realize that my Lenten promise is going to keep me from getting incredibly hammered with her on Saturday night. So I sent her an email yesterday, letting her know in lengthy, exclamation-pointed detail how excited I am, telling her that I'm bringing food for the pre-party at her place but that I'm not drinking because, you know, Lent. I know Kate has given up beer for Lent before, so I figured she'd understand. Kate's pretty serious about her faith and I think one of my only girlfriends who goes to church every Sunday. I got a one-line response: "Jesus told me that there is dispensation for Girls Night Out." This is what I love about my friends. They are as serious about their religion as they are about their drinking. Posted by Erin at 07:11 AM | filed under: Odds and ends commentspost a comment
