Mo knows
Maureen Ryan, who is the television critic for the Chicago Tribune, is dead on when it comes to the Grey's Anatomy controversy. I love Mo. We have a best friend in common (Hi Jen!), and I'm always impressed at how thoughtful her pieces are. I know it's "just television" but when someone who is as talented as Mo breaks it down, especially after reading the comments that result from what she writes, you can't help but be amazed at the cultural impact television shows really have. Which means you all really need to read some of the comments Mo received from that post. People are so simple and narrow-minded that it boggles my brain. Great article. I agree though, so many of those comments are insane. Since when is it considered "too PC" to be upset about someone using hate language? And for those people who think it was nothing, what do they make of the fact that on top of calling Knight this slur, Washington choked Patrick Dempsey? I'd be willing to be that the only reason Dempsey and most of the rest of the cast let it go was because they didn't want to risk losing the best job they've had in a long time. Too bad Washington doesn't feel that way.
I actually e-mailed ABC last week and said I won't watch the show again until Washington is gone. I find it very distracting to see him on screen - especially in scenes with Knight. Burke was one of my favorite characters on the show, but now I just find myself wondering how Knight can stand to look at him when they have a scene together. Oh and props to the actress who plays Izzie for sticking up for Knight when that reporter asked her what she thought of the incident at the GGs. Too bad Shonda Rhimes has clearly positioned herself in Washington's corner.
