Why Yesterday Was Lovely
1) At work, I was hooked up to one of the servers that allows me access to all of editorial, which allows me to do my job about a million times easier and faster. And it happened without me having to ask my bosses downtown to get us an extra Mac and I didn't want to do that. Mostly because I hate using Macs. 2) Paul Konrad was wearing Halloween costumes to deliver the news yesterday morning and there is nothing I love more than a man who makes me laugh. Well, mostly a man who looks like Paul Konrad. 3) I found a new gym, one with locations just minutes away from both home and work. And at half the cost of my old gym. And two of my best friends work out there, too. 4) Candace, Emily, Kerry and I met Steve Tannen of The Weepies before the Hotel Cafe Tour show and he touched my arm three times and thanked us for being such big fans and didn't seem at all disturbed by me telling him, "I love your music so, so much." If I'd been prepared for such a meeting, I also would have told him how much his music meant to me this year, how it helped to pull me out from the dark places I went to and how whenever I need to be reminded of how lucky I am, so I don't go back to those places, I listen to him and Deb. And I don't think he would have minded me telling him all of that, either. Did I mention we met Steve Tannen? Because WE MET STEVE TANNEN. 5) The jackass sitting next to us wearing the Walter Payton jersey and backwards cap, an outfit I assume he donned just to make sure everyone knew how very heterosexual he is, kept acting as though he was at Sigma Chi frat party throughout the entire show and subsequently got the smackdown from our sweet waiter. Later this doorknob asked my friend for a smoke, to which she replied, "Do you know what an asshole you were being throughout the entire show? I will give you one but you need to learn how to behave." We were then rescued by one of the guys from the band who gladly served as our buffer from this tool. 5) We also met Matt Costa. And he, too, was awesome and lovely and cute and gracious and by that time we'd already had a few drinks so we were a lot less giggly and stupid. Sorta. Emily and Candace met Cary Brothers, too, and with the exception of Joshua Radin, we'd pretty much met the entire tour lineup at that point. 6) And then we got asked to join everyone for drinks at Alive One afterwards. I don't think I've ever been asked to join rock stars for drinks, and my quasi-boyfriend from the early 90s doesn't count, even if did have a major record deal, hung out with the guitar player from Stabbing Westward and had Letters to Cleo open up for them. Totally. Different. 7) My memory foam and new mattress pad arrived and for the first time in I don't know how long, I had a restful night's sleep and nothing on my person aches.

Damn. posted by: e d scott at October 18, 2006 01:11 PM I've had The Weepies on repeat for months. It's pretty pathetic. posted by: nicole at October 18, 2006 02:19 PM ERIN!!! I didn't realize you had a Paul Konrad obsession, too! I'll have to tell you all about St. Patrick's Day 2005, when I went to Mystic Celt at 7am to drink Guinness with Paul Konrad. It was beyond fantastic. I think we might actually be sisters.... Oh, and I appreciate your detailed description of Thumper. posted by: Kerry at October 18, 2006 04:07 PM Ooooh, Cary Brothers. I am absolutely jealous. I had "Blue Eyes" as the first dance song at my wedding and every time I hear his voice I just want to melt... I hope he was nice to your friends! posted by: Felicia at October 19, 2006 10:38 AM Dood, if you are excited about your memory foam pad, let me tell you that my memory foam pillow (which is also curved to fit my neck) is totally awesome. I am jealous, I love the Weepies so much - I saw them in London and it was such a small show and they were just hanging out in the back and I wanted to say something, but I wasn't sure what to say without saying like a complete dork!
