Just Wondering

What is up with everyone playing Bean Bag Toss games lately? Seriously.

It's in bars, outside of bars, at parties ... can we all agree that we're going to run out of kitchy stuff over which to wax nostalgia aaaaany second now?

Is this purely a Chicago thing or is it happening elsewhere?

Oh it's finally hit down there. It's been the choice of the burbs since last summer. You don't fit in if you don't have a bean bag toss in our hood. : )

It's less dangerous than bocce ball?

It's been popular on the west side of Cincinnati for pretty much the history of time, and it's called cornhole down there. As for the rest of the country? It's probably just a fad, although I hadn't realized it was The New Big Thing here.

Hey Shea! I've heard it referred to as the "Corn Hole" game, but my husband told me that was a dirty joke and someone was playing a trick on me when they told me that. Andy Milanikias (sp?--"got bologna in my left pocket") was on The Today Show advertising the "Corn Hole Game." Apparently that is what a lot of midwesterners call it. Anyhoo--I don't mind the game much , but find that a few beers makes it a whole lot more fun. And it improves one's game. Enjoy!

In my hometown in Indiana a game called cornhole seems to be popular with college kids. It's sort of a similar set-up to horseshoes, but you try to throw a beanbag thing through a hole. It looks like a game you'd find at a carnival!

a little urban/suburban anthropology here, huh? fun. well, i'm not "from around here," but my boyfriend grew up just outside the city on the southwest side, and he refers to this as 'bags.' apparently it's been around for a while? he seems to remember it from way back when.

now, in new england, we had beer pong. still a dumb drinking game, but far superior to this 'bags' thing, if you ask me :)

The force of cornhole is growing stronger each summer in this great nation.

I am waiting for lawn darts to come back into good-time-accidental-death-fun myself.

I have not seen it in bars or outside of bars, or at parties in New York City.

Our retired RV-ing neighbors have had this goofy game for at least five or six years. Maybe it got its start with the snowbird bunch? And now you young whippersnappers have taken it up ... lol

CORNHOLE! Is speading! I know it from visiting inlaws in Cincinnati, but experienced it in Ithaca not long ago. If it replaces bocce ball as retro ironic hipster bar activity in Brooklyn, I will cry.

i send the whole nyc notion---im not quite sure this whole "beanbag craze" has made it out of the midwest. its nowhere to be seen here in nyc.

HOWEVER, i would say that i LOVE it that skee-ball is coming back into fashion in a few places around here. ive even seen mention of a "brewskee-ball" league on craigslist. THATS a comeback i could handle.

Never seen it up here in eastern Canada. Plus, we'd just laugh too damn hard if someone decided to name a game "cornhole".

Cornhole first made an appearance at a party here in St. Louis a couple of years ago. But I haven't seen it at any bars. I'm glad other people call it Cornhole though--I thought someone was playing a trick on me too!

I'm Canadian, so I'm going to plead ignorance on the bean bag thing. But I'm glad to say I hope it's replaced the hackeysack. *rolleyes* ;P

AHHHHH YES the game of bags. Honey where have you been? The bags game is a past time for people who were, when drunk, too dangerous to be handling horse shoes. I guess only some fine country folk would know this game....say maybe from Manhattan.....you know where corn grows tall. Miss you.

Bean bag toss has not caught on down South yet, so far as I know...but we tend to be a bit behind on these things. You Chicagoans will have moved onto Hula Hoops and horsehoes and we'll just then be tossing beans.

ok, so all I can say is that if you go to Nascar races and hang out with the RV crowd, you'll see this. got no idea what the folks call it, but it's like soft horseshoes (good idea with this crowd). seen it at the beach in Panama City - so i'm guessing it's a pretty redneck thing here. not in bars. we just mostly drink there, not play with bags or cornholes. best you can get is pool, and you gotta pay. or get hustled.

Here in O-H-I-O, we call it corn hole. I like to tease my friends and tell them that they play "bunghole." Since I live in a college town, corn hole is EVERYWHERE. I've seen them sold on street corners. That's right, you heard it here first.

In Columbus, Ohio---you can get a hooker on one corner and a corn hole set on another.

Not sure what is with that game. I just know that there are a pack of guys that play the game on the sidewalk in front of my building. It makes it tough to go running with a jogging stroller when they hog up the entire sidewalk. Duh - move the game somewhere else!

We just saw it for the first time today! My husband prefers the "drink beer and throw washers in a coffee can" game.

I should have added that we live in Philly.
