What's Playing On Erin's iPod Right Now
Goodnight and Go Skipping beats, blushing cheeks I am struggling Why d'ya have to be so cute? Follow you home, you've got your headphones on and you're dancing Why d'ya have to be so cute? One of these days, you'll miss your train and come stay with me (it's always say goodnight and go) Say goodnight and go, -- The other day, Eliza commented that Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" is the most beautiful song she's heard lately. This reminded me that right now my favorite song is this one by Heap, "Goodnight And Go." I'm on a real Imogen Heap trip right now. All that lovely techno, happy sound. It's exactly the sort of song I would turn up really loudly on an unseasonably warm winter's day in my first car, top down and everything. Everytime the chorus breaks in, I find myself waving my arms about, twisting my wrists into waving motions ... and I'm 20 again, wearing a flowery, blousy shirt and jeans, waiting for Spring to get here. It's lovely and sweet and coy and hopeful. I am tired of sad love songs, people. Damn time someone wrote a decent, happy love song. Every winter needs this sort of song to push us through till it really is Spring. Tell me, if you'd like ... Do you have one of these sorts of songs for yourself? Posted by Erin at 08:28 PM | filed under: iPod commentsAnother Imogen Heap fan, checking in. If you like Fountains of Wayne or their ilk at all, "The Girl I Can't Forget" off of the recent "Out of State Plates" release is one of the best pop songs I've ever heard in my life. And I don't say that casually, trust me. It's instant sunshine - fun lyrics and a happy ending, plus some great horns. Actually, their whole "Utopia Parkway" disc is a fun disc for lifting winter spirits. At least it works for me. Not so many love songs, but "Red Dragon Tattoo" - yeah. And if you at ALL like alt-country, or alt, or country, or just a good time, check out www.lasttrainhome.com. "Doughnut Girl" from the "True North" cd is a DC-area LTH show staple. Krispy Kremes are a big deal around these parts and any love song that incorporates them...well, nothing wrong with that. I have more, but I'll stop, because I'm already babbling on. Can't. Stop. The. Music. : ) Laurie posted by: Laurie at January 30, 2006 11:28 PM Oh! I forgot "Melt With You." It just never gets old. posted by: Laurie at January 30, 2006 11:39 PM yay for imogen. i LOVE her. you might already know this...but if you like imogen heap, you need to check out frou frou [of the garden state soundtrack fame] as theyre both imogen heap. frou frou being her and a different producer, i belive. there are some FABULOUS random imogen/froufrou songs on itunes--"holding out for a hero" off the shrek2 soundtrack and "spooky" off the 'just like heaven' soundtrack. "speak for yourself" is one of the best albums out there right now. fabulous music. posted by: deanna at January 31, 2006 03:23 AM One their latest album, Borrowed Heaven, The Corrs sing happy, uncomplicated, upbeat love songs. I'm currently addicted to Humdrum, Summer Sunshine, and Even If - perfectly light and frothy, and I'm unable to stop singing along! posted by: ysabelkid at January 31, 2006 07:49 AM You want happy love songs? You want funny love songs? Check out Mark Berube at www.ElizabethRecords.com. Try Sleep and The Way You Smell. It's not techno by any stretch but it's got a good beat and you can laugh to it. posted by: Kizz at January 31, 2006 10:28 AM www.jcbsong.co.uk click on the ‘JCB video’ inside the book. its the sweetest song all about a little boy and his dad. It sounds a bit strange to start with, but listen to the words, it brings back that warm childhood feeling. posted by: Rebecca at January 31, 2006 11:50 AM Mine is, of course, not your typical "love" song. "Ugliest Guy..." from Magnetic Field's 69 Love Songs Volume I. The juxtaposition of happy tunage with upbeat voice and kinda sad lyrics just gets me. posted by: Michelle at February 3, 2006 01:07 PM Erin, I've been reading your blog almost everyday for years now. I started with the Buddha site and moved on to ejshea. Thank you! I appreciate your writing style -- you've kept me entertained for such a long time. posted by: Shasta at February 8, 2006 12:20 AM |
