Done With Dreamy

This is not something I typically brag about [Confidential to Tank: Shut. It. Now. :)] but I have been a fan of John Mayer's since ... 2001? Had to have been. I saw him for free when he first came through here in Chicago, before his shows sold out because girls clamored everywhere to see him live.

I suffered through "Heavier Things" because. Well. It was easy to blame that on the fact that he was dating Jennifer Boobs Hewitt. But I knew, just knew, that he wasn't going to be an easy, fun pop star. He just seemed too talented and earnest for that. And cool. He just seemed too cool.

So now he quietly introduces the John Mayer Trio, a little group he put together to finally start doing the music he should be doing in the first place. The album came out today. It's delightful, bluesy, rocking, just fantastic. It won't have the young girls swooning and crying to his lyrics, but whatever. He shouldn't be writing for them anyway. He should be writing for ME.

Don't dismiss him. Besides, LOOK AT THAT HAIR. And he's got a MySpace blog!

I was lucky enough to catch a Trio show at the Ryman this fall-- it was amazing. And, for the first time in a long time, no one was screaming for "Your Body is a Wonderland".

"Try"= good listening. :)

OK, so I love the site & thought you were cool and all before this, but this? The John Mayer thing? Cements it. Clearly you have excellent taste in music. Why do you live in Chicago? If you were East Coast we could be friends!

We probably started listening to Mayer's music around the same time. There's just something about getting in at the ground floor, isn't there? If you get a chance, catch the Trio live - you won't regret it. I made it to one of their shows in October and it was one of the best concerts I've seen. There's just something about watching (and listening) to someone find their place. Very cool.

And his MySpace blogs are pretty good - although, not nearly as entertaining as the comments left by some of the more enthusiastic fans.

By the way, I assume you caught the NYC show on AOL tonight? If not, I do believe you can stop by aol.com and check it out. And they're performing on Letterman on Thanksgiving. First Dave guesses pies, then the Trio plays. Good stuff.

Okay, so I've been searching over the past week for something nice to say about Mayer and I finally found it:

He was really funny on that episode of Chappelle's Show.

There, see? When I try, I can find something nice to say about almost anyone!
