Use My Hands To Use My Heart
I know this makes me one of those people, but if you all aren't listening to Sufjan Stevens right now then you are not cool and we totally need to break up right now. I am so enchanted by him that I can barely see straight. Don't do what I did and waste time wondering and questioning whether you should listen to him: just go on ahead and listen. Posted by Erin at 11:29 AM | filed under: Music commentsIf you haven't already, you'll want to visit NPR's website (specifically, see http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4721675 ) to download "Lord God Bird," a beautiful song Sufjan just recorded in honor of the ivory-billed woodpecker. (The NPR story associated with the MP3 is also wonderful and worth listening to.) posted by: grace at July 12, 2005 08:29 PM Oh my gosh, that song is just wonderful. posted by: Amy at July 13, 2005 03:32 PM well... yes... since yr previous thoughts / quoting of ss intrigued me some ... and then another blogger did some raving about him, i trudged out to my local megamusic store and found ... absolutely nothing by him ... but i did find two not-so-dusty artifacts from the seventies: 101ers (w/ joe strummer & x-ray specs ... so it wasn't a total loss ... but what's up w/ his distribution? even amazon says we've got a two to three week wait ... and i got a dialup so the downloads just won't go ... but i live in hope that some day i'll be able to listen to ss ... and i'll remain on yr cool person list posted by: brtom at July 13, 2005 10:44 PM Not to make y'all jealous, but he's even better looking in person. (Ok, I just outed myself as a church-nerd, ahem.) And, he's one of the nicest people ever. posted by: Di at July 14, 2005 04:16 PM I love it. The Internet once again reminds us all of how small the world is. BT -- check yr email. I can certainly arrange something for one of my favorite teachers of all time ... posted by: Erin at July 14, 2005 08:19 PM |

He is amazing. Sufjan and I went to college together and were in the same writing workshops. He was in an excellent band then, called Marzuki (if you can ever find their CDs, they're worth acquiring), and I'm not surprised at his success. He's a fascinating person. Tickets are still available for his September Metro show...
